Hoop it up with SSB

Social Sports of Bethesda has existed since 2003 and has offered many different sports.  During that time, SSB has offered co-ed football (spring and fall), softball (summer), dodge ball (summer), and volleyball (winter).  Throughout the years, we have heard a lot of suggestions from our participants about offering co-ed basketball league.  So, we listened and made it happen this fall.  October 5th was the inaugural season start for SSB co-ed basketball..

We play two 20-minute halves on a full size regulation court with two high school certified officials, an official score keeper, and we use gym scoreboard (feels like a high school or intramural game).  Unlike traditional SSB rules, there are no "gender" rules in co-ed basketball.  The only requirements for teams are that they have two females on the court at all times.   The other unique rule is that female points are with 3 points (inside the three point line) and 4 points (outside the three point line).  After week 1, there are a few girls who can shoot the lights out and can easily put up Kevin Durant numbers.

This season we will be playing the entire 8 weeks at Silver Spring International and having our after game happy hour at  Fire Station One in Silver Spring.  Come out and visit anytime and shoot around during half time and in between games.  If you are interested in getting a team next season, email us at info@socialsportsofbethesda.com.

Fall Football - Game of the week (week 2)

Saturday, September 17th kicked off the opening season for SSB fall football.  Overcast skies, 70 degree temperature, with a little bit of off and on showers proved to be great football weather.  The game of the week highlighted the spring 2011 lite division champions, "3-OH-Wonders," lead by Kendel Bruce versus "Touch Down There," lead by Maria Pena.  This is Kendel's first season in the miller division and the team was a bit nervous with moving up in a higher level of competition.

Overall, the game proved to be too much for Maria's team as 3-OH-Wonders QB, Danny Koniecka, put up Tom Brady like numbers with 5 TD's.  On top of that he had an interception run for a TD.  Danny's teammates Michelle Nusraty and Amy Lang helped out tremendously on defense.  The bright spot for team, Touch Down There, was the play of Brian Morse and Maria Pena rotating the QB duties.  Both played well  at QB, however, this team might need some time to gel and work together to work out the rust.  Look out for this team in week 4 or 5. Once they have a few games under the belt they could surprise some of the miller division teams... There is a lot of talent on this team (#justsayin)

Final score:

3-OH-Wonders = 46
Touch Down There = 12
